Each year the Entomology Division of the Maine Forest Service (MFS) conducts large scale spruce budworm insecticidal testing and evaluation.  This document attempts to standardize procedures of sampling and analysis in order that information will be more consistent from year to year. Further, by supplying a copy of these guidelines to independent contractors hired by MFS, resulting studies will be insured if useful comparison. It is important that MFS field crews and/or contractors thoroughly understand the following guidelines in an effort to maximize the amount of comparable information gained by each insecticidal test.
