Common loon (Gavia immer) reproductive ecology and response to disturbance were studied in Maine during 1979 and 1980 in 2 areas of Maine with differing levels of recreational.
Overall reproductive success, in terms of chicks fledged per territorial pair, was similar to rates observed in studies elsewhere. Nesting success was higher than recorded for common loons by other researchers, but chick survival ws much lower.
