During the period 1940-1949, the Lake Nipigon forest area of Ontario was devastated by a severe outbreak of spruce budworm, Choristoneura Fumiferana (Clem). This outbreak began on the west shore of Lake Nipigon, a large lake about 35 miles north of Lake Spencer.
