Abstract:
The spruce budworm is an ever present menace to the spruce-fir forests of the Northern states and Canada and poriodicai.ly devastates vast areas. Past research has failed to provided methods of control adequate to cope with those periodic epidemics. Four lines of research must be initiated at the earliest possible moment to determine feasible control methods. This research should be headed by the Federal Government through the Bureau of Entomology and Plant Quarantine and the U.S. Forest Services jointly cooperating with the Dominion of Canada Division of Entomology, all cooperating with the states and private owners of forest land.
