It is impossible to eschew superlatives when the talk turns to spruce budworm. The larva of this insect, the spruce budworm is North America's most widely distributed forest insect pest. The budworm outbreak that has spread during the 1970s across Quebec. New Brunswick, Newfoundland, Nova Scotia, and Maine are the most serious in history. And the most intense forest spraying operation on this continent makes the budworm its target.
