In order that a managed area may produce food and cover plants at a maximum rate, which can be permanently maintained, it is necessary to make the best use of the existing habitat. Often it is advantageous to modify the habitat in order to bring it closer to the optimum conditions for the most desirable plants. The present study is in part an example to define in quantitative terms the optima of several habitat factors in so far as they affect five important species of aquatic plants.
