Direct estimates of site potential are often difficult in the cut-over stands found on the Chattahoochee National Forest. A guide is described for evaluating soil and site characteristics to aid in estimating site potential and selecting species suited to the site. A predictive matrix format is used to make recommendations based on field measure of soil and site factors. The guide was field tested in 1988; preliminary data indicates sites are often misclassified without the use of soil/site data.
